Much Ado About Nothing - DIY Envelope/ Briefumschlag - Mail Art

Inspirierender?)

If nothing else is ready to show, I still have this birthday envelope I made for my honeybun... It held the invitation for a night at the opera.
That's the way I did it. Take the inside of a giftwrap paper (it's rather sturdy, believe me...), fold it into envelope shape, glue some pieces of script, stamps... on (Tim Holtz, Crowded Attic Paper Stash copies, other sources from the web, I am sorry I do not know from where anymore), sew a seam and but a binding with seal around it.
The invitation is made from a vintage opera announcement which I photoshopped to change the date. Than I surrounded the edges with a wet paint brush, placed it above a candle so that it burnt the edges up to the water line. As a final touch I brushed the paper with normal salad oil. That makes the image water-resistant and makes it look like parchment. (But, I must admit, maybe baby oil would be better, as the pieces get a little smelly after a while. Not the best thing for a love letter...)

TMTA - Schmetterling - Butterfly

An der Seite steht mit Bleistift der Spruch von Carl Sagan: We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it is forever.
Nein, nein, mir geht's prima! Vielen Dank für's Ansehen!

This is my contribution to TMTA. The background is the copy of a piece of my art-journal-page "Ozymandias". The butterfly to me is a symbol of ephemerality and beauty. This is why I made it from a cornflakes wrapping (Yes, I am serious! It's something one would throw away after use) and an old text on mortality.
On the side, you find the pencil-written saying: We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it is forever. (Carl Sagan)
No, don't think I have a depression... That just came into my head when thinking of the theme. (A little far fetched, maybe, I must admit...) Anyhoo, I am still happy and bouncing...

Vielen Dank!

I have had this washboard in my garden for quite some time, now. It kept the company with the zinc water can. However, decay does not pause here, neither, and a nice piece of decoration can become compost quickly.
So I took it inside, gave it a touch of colour and started to think.... Thinking that I might turn this board into a magnet board resulted in the evaluation, a little bit of phyics, that zink is not magnetized. No way!
The magnetized paint in our hardware store was too expensive, so I just screwed some hooks into the board, tackered a piece of mesh around it as kind of a pocket and fixed a (the!) wire coat-hanger of my sweetiepie to the bottom. For a towel instead of his trunks... (He did not think of it as SUCH a good idea...) The mesh pocket will be filled with recipes for daily needs, notepapers will be put on the hooks, together with a pencil for news for my daughter (if I am out and about again) and the crocheted thingy will become a potholder. A beautiful, lacy one. One for "good". The beautiful graphic advertisement that I used stems once again from the vast offer of the overwhelming Graphic's Fairy. Thanks so much!
I am linking this to "Brag Monday" to share the inspiration. Thanks for looking!

Art Journal - Script "Ozymandias"

Lest selbst...
Ozymandias
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away

Übersetzung:

Ein Wandrer kam aus einem alten Land,
Und sprach: „Ein riesig Trümmerbild von Stein
Steht in der Wüste, rumpflos Bein an Bein,
Das Haupt daneben, halb verdeckt vom Sand.
Der Züge Trotz belehrt uns: wohl verstand
Der Bildner, jenes eitlen Hohnes Schein
Zu lesen, der in todten Stoff hinein
Geprägt den Stempel seiner ehrnen Hand.
Und auf dem Sockel steht die Schrift: ‚Mein Name
Ist Osymandias, aller Kön’ge König: –
Seht meine Werke, Mächt’ge, und erbebt!‘
Nichts weiter blieb. Ein Bild von düstrem Grame,
Dehnt um die Trümmer endlos, kahl, eintönig
Die Wüste sich, die den Koloß begräbt.“
(Übersetzung von Adolf Strodtmann 1866

A poem by P.B. Shelley, an English romantic, touched me very much. It motivated me to contribute to Art-Journal-Journey "Script". Attached you will find the poem in a readable style. It impresses me so much with its words that read like an ancient spell of powerful magic. Read for yourselves...

Three Muses Challenge - Bathing Beauty

My "Bathing Beauty" looks rather like a diving synchronized swimmer of ancient times... But it was fun to put this week's theme of the "Three Muses" onto a digital canvas. And it's a whole lot of work, too - unfortunately not as obvious as with three dimensial mixed media collages. At least that's what I feel about it.
But still I have to do it from time to time: Get the last out of the pc, making the picture software steam and save the picture, just about in time, before the computer collapses... Phew, all that to be able to present it here... Thanks so much for looking...

Think Monday - Think ATC Zentangle

Die Ferien sind vorbei! Ran an die "Arbeit": Das Wochenthema bei TMTA ist "Zentangle". Hmmm, "Zentangle"... Nie gehört und nie gesehen. Google muss ran.

The holidays are over. Back to "work": The weekly theme with TMTA is "Zentangle".
Never heard of... "Zentangle"... Never heard, never seen... Let's ask Google.
Nay... That's today's name for what I have done in former math-lessons (long, long ago) and which I produce during telephone calls today? O.K. I can do THAT... A little bit of shabby around the ATC to add my personal touch.
Thanks for looking and have a wonderful, sunny week!

White Wednesday

Huhu...

Back home again... Our family tour to Oxford was successful. We met the Easter bunny and were overloaded with Easter treats and English food... Great breakfast they have there I must say... Not so great is the weight that we all put on... The medieval city was impressive. It seems that knowledge and science is in the air, one college is attached to the other... Are these pictures in their cream colours not a treat for "White Wednesday"?

There was no time for crafting. But I wanted to show you my time vignettes. One is a small collection of clocks and clockworks which my brother had given me for Christmas. The other are "fake" clock faces which I printed out from the internet and glued to chipboard or old cds. (The cd printables can be found here).

Taschenpullover - Pullover Tote DIY

As a matter of fact, I should tidy up. When I intended to clean up my stash of fabrics, I coincidentally found the sleeves of a pullover which had ended up as a pillow. Coming from thin air, I suddenly found myself losening the seam. The open sleeves put together, one the other way round, resulted in an almost perfect rectangle. I just had to sew along the seams, attach the belt of my daughter as a hanger (hush, she does not know yet that she may find herself a new belt) and now the little tote is hiding the ugly guest- slippers and hangs in the hallway. The little wreath that can be seen on the image resulted from a whim: My husband intended to trash an egg carton. Meaning to tease me, he asked if I could make another use of it. That was the challenge and resulted in the little flowers on the wreath...

Also.

Yesterday I was eagerly working on clean seams and sharp edges, today the more rustic "primitive" being inside me has hopped from bed to crafting table. (Everything to avoid the breakfast table after yesterday evening I have eaten triple portions. The chocolate has been terminated two days ago already - I know myself: No temptations in times of (scheduled) diets.)
Anyway... My home needs to be filled with spring. Searching the web for botanical prints (collectorsprint.com), soring the garden for branches (which was not a difficult task after the recent stormy weather), the other ingredients were already available: chipboard, gesso, bits and pieces. These frames are the results. Fixed on wire they will make my entry hall bloom...
Thanks so much for looking!

Brauchen Eier Mützen? Eggs Need Caps!

That's what I did today: Egg warmers. They are meant to be a present for Easter and hide the eggs, lol. Anyway, they are meant for a couple who is neither too whimsy nor too down-to-earth. My hubby's relatives. That's why the egg warmers got a personal touch: Stripes of my deary's former good shirts. Even the tiniest piece of fabric is not lost...
